Three for Trio

Three For Trio (1990) consists of three movements that are related in their melodic material but each of quite different character.

The jazz-tinged first movement disrupts 9/8 meter with pronounced two-note groupings, shuffling the same melodic material between the instruments and driving towards a moment in which triplets in three different speeds are played simultaneously

The second movement, lyrical in nature,is an accompanied duet between the strings in which the instruments mirror each other melodically.

The last movement begins with a rhythmic pattern of seven beats against which sustained melodies take shape.
